Our Hope? God Heals Broken Hearts

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. - Psalm 147:3 ESV

Psalms 147:3 tells us that God heals the brokenhearted and binds up all their wounds. This scripture gives us hope because nothing written in the Word of God is a lie, it’s all absolute truth. If God said He would heal broken hearts then He will heal broken hearts. Sometimes He just wants a little effort from our side too.

God wants us to read His Word, to go to Him in prayer, and to believe that He can and will comfort and heal us in our time of despair.

If you’ve been dealing with a broken heart for a while and have been wondering why He isn’t healing you. Ponder on this quote:

“God can heal a broken heart, but He needs all the pieces.”

Go to Him with all the pieces of your broken heart today and watch Him mend it in a way that leaves you feeling so much better than you could have ever imagined.

Bible Verses for a Broken Heart

Praying back to God Bible verses has tremendous power. If your heart is broken, I'm sure you're looking for some comforting verses from God's Word. A hurting heart can find solace in these 13 Bible verses, which we have compiled after searching the Scriptures.

Psalm 34:17-18

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. ~ EVS

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. When your spirit is crushed, He does not leave you, He is still with you and He will heal you. You only need to believe that He will.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. ~ EVS

Being heartbroken is not easy, it often leaves you confused and unsure of what to do next. At this point, the best thing you can do is trust in the Lord, you may not understand what’s going on but He does, so allow Him to step in and help you.

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. ~ EVS

God is with you, even in your pain and unbelief, He is still watching over you. You may feel weak right now but know that He will strengthen you and uphold you with His righteous right hand. You’ll be okay in every situation because He is your God.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. ~ EVS

You’re only human and as a human being you will get hurt, your flesh and your heart can fail. Good thing you have God. He will be your strength and your portion forever, remind yourself of this fact today.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. ~ EVS

You may have found peace in the person who broke your heart and now you feel like you’ll never find peace again. Let this scripture be a reminder that Jesus has left you peace. And the peace that He has given you is not like the peace from the world, it cannot be taken away nor contaminated by betrayal. It’s an everlasting peace that will heal your heart and your mind.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. ~ EVS

The burden a heartbreak gives you is usually too heavy to carry on your own. Good thing you don’t have to carry it. The Bible says you can cast your burdens on the Lord, and He will sustain you. So cast your burdens and allow the Lord to sustain you today.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. ~ EVS

Do you think you’ll never be able to get over this heartbreak? Think again, you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. ~ EVS

It’s hard to trust people, especially when your heart is broken. Let this verse remind you that there is someone you can go to that will always be trustworthy. His name is Jesus Christ of Nazareth and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ EVS

Heartbreaks can cause anxiety, but you can overcome it. Go to God in prayer, tell Him how you feel, let Him heal you. And then allow the peace of God that surpasses all understanding to guard your mended heart in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 2:24

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed. ~ EVS

Someone may have broken your heart and left you wounded, but there is someone else (Jesus Christ) that was wounded so that you could be healed. Focus on the latter today and every day. He will never let you down.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” ~ EVS

People may leave you but God will never leave nor forsake you. You can always trust in Him.

Psalm 56:8

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? ~ EVS

Every tear you've cried is in God’s bottle, it’s in His book. You do not have to take revenge nor hold bitterness in your heart. You can forgive and let go because not only will God heal and deliver you, He will also fight your battles for you.

Revelation 21:4

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” ~ EVS

We can be comforted from a broken heart and clouded mind by the love of Christ and the Word of God, knowing that He will sustain and deliver us from evil, sorrow, and pain.Ad for It Is Well: A Christian Guided Journal: 10 Weeks to Making Peace with Your Past; Taking Control of Your Emotions; and Living a Life that Honors God

A Prayer for the Hurting Heart

Even in heartbreak, prayer should always be our first response, not our last resort. If you’re not sure what to say, pray this prayer today:

Lord Jesus Christ,

I come to you today with a broken heart full of hope. My heart is hurting and I feel extremely vulnerable right now but I know that you are the only one I can fully trust and the only one who can truly heal me. So today, I ask for healing Lord, I give you every single piece of this broken heart, and I’m praying that you mend it in the way that only you can. I also pray that you will help me forgive the person who broke my heart and let go of any bitterness that I hold within me. I pray for a fresh start with a healed heart that trusts in you completely. Thank you, Lord, for being close to me through this heartbreak and never leaving me alone. I’m grateful for all you have done and all you are going to do in my life. May your will be done in my life, Lord. I love you. Amen.

If you just prayed that prayer, know that God has heard you and He will heal your heart. He didn’t just promise things to the people of biblical times, His promises still stand today. Therefore, all these Bible verses for hurting hearts are still valid and true for you. As much as He was there for the weary and brokenhearted in the Bible, He will be there for you today. Trust in that fact.
