What Are the 7 Pieces of the Armor of God & How to Use Them Today

What Are the 7 Pieces of the Armor of God & How to Use Them Today

In life, we are bound to experience challenges both naturally and spiritually. Sometimes you may feel tired of fighting and growing weary on your path. However, God has given us 7 pieces of armor we can put on and take hold of daily to stand firm, fighting another day. Below I will share with you the 7 pieces of the armor of God, why they’re essential, and how to use them.

Armor of God Scripture

The Armor of God Bible verses can be found in Ephesians 6:10–18, NIV

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

What Are The 7 Pieces of the Armor of God?

The 7 Pieces of Armor of God is our divinely given toolkit (new self) that we can accept and use to help us get through the challenges of being a follower of Christ and to complete our mission on earth as God’s heirs. The Armor of God include the below pieces:

  • The Belt of Truth

  • The Breastplate of Righteousness

  • The Gospel of Peace

  • The Shield of Faith

  • The Helmet of Salvation

  • The Sword of the Spirit

  • Prayer

The above pieces equips us to be strong and protective to stand firm against the schemes of the enemy and everything within our fallen world attempting to keep us from living life as His called sons and daughters. Ephesians 6 reminds us the fight is not always what we see but includes the battle between spirits within the heavenly realms.

Furthermore, the key to utilizing God's armor is choosing to use the resources of Christian life and believing wholeheartedly that your mind/heart will align with what has been given to you by God for victory. For this reason, I share with you all 7 pieces of the armor of God and how to use them before, during, and after trouble comes.

Spiritual armor and how to use it today Pin It

1 - Belt of Truth

The belt of truth signifies holding God’s truth close to yourself at the core of your being. As you know, a belt naturally surrounds us and keeps things in place within our outfits. God’s truth does the same no matter where we put it; we are not being tossed back and forth by the lies from our environments and are no longer disciples of false doctrine.

Three Ways to Belt of Truth:

Use the Belt of Truth as the Foundation of your identity. Use the belt of truth as your foundation to understand your capabilities. Daily reading and listening to God’s truth to enlighten and give ourselves a vision of who we are in Him.

Use the Belt of Truth to filter how you view the world. The belt of truth can be used daily as a filter to help you decipher the facts from the world's lies. In return, allowing you to stay grounded and with a clear view and understanding of what you see around you.

Use the Belt of Truth for hope for the future. The belt of truth reminds you of our hope that God loves us and desires the best for us. Use the truth to help you set the tone for all other parts of all you are looking forward to experiencing as a Christian.

2- Breastplate of Righteousness

The breastplate of righteousness serves as our heart's protection and covers the most critical part of you, your heart. Right-ness not only makes us pure and blameless, but it also guards and protects our lifeline from attacks and disorientation.

The Ways to Use the breastplate of righteousness:

Use the Breastplate of Righteousness to keep you pure in love. Honestly, the breastplate can be whatever you need it to be. Most importantly, the breastplate of rightness makes you love and protects the love you have inside of your heart. Provides opportunities for confidence to love and be loved the right way in life.

Use the Breastplate of Righteous to remain holy in all you do. Just because the enemy attacks you does not mean you get out of character with others and do the wrong thing. However, if you maintain the standards of righteousness, then you have accepted the responsibility and decency to remain pure and blameless in your heart and who you are at the core.

Use the Breastplate of Righteousness to ward off the habits of your old self. The breastplate of righteousness is an optional tool. You must use it to protect your heart against old things that try to creep in and destroy your transformation in Christ. Righteousness reminds you and battles with you to remain as God has called you to be long ago. The breastplate covers your whole trunk area protecting the essential organs from being attacked and overtaken.

3 - Feet Fitted with the Gospel of Peace

Having the Gospel of Peace at your feet allows you to walk and stand inLike this content on Meta a way that is not hurried or reactive. The Gospel of peace is the good news of Jesus, who walked the path before us. When we accept peace, we are ready to move forward and fight for victory.

Three ways to use the Gospel of Peace

Use the Gospel of Peace to rest - You can use the Gospel of Peace to find rest in that we don’t always have to strive to meet a standard that is not our own; we can stand. When you fit your feet with the Gospel of peace, all worry and striving to remain stable cease because we are no longer balanced by our strength but by the power of Jesus’ story as our calm in the chaos.

Use the Gospel of Peace as your motivation - Using the Gospel of Peace as the why behind your motivation to live another day. Our feet are what we move first whenever we attempt to move forward in life. When we know the redemptive work of Christ's life, the energy and motivation encourage us to stand in the same victory, He models for us in Christ Jesus.

Use the Gospel of Peace as your guide to your purpose - Starting with the Gospel of Jesus, of His completeness in our lives, helps guide us in genuinely taking up our cross and following God. The good news of Jesus can also serve as a tool to ignite eagerness and desire to understand the true purpose, to live in tranquility, and glorify the kingdom in the process.

4 - Shield of Faith

My favorite, the shield of faith, gives us the confidence to defend ourselves and deflect the attacks of doubt, fear, and inadequacy. The shield of faith is an essential piece of your spiritual armor because security is often referring to God and his desire to keep the enemy away on our behalf. But we must have faith in and of God to trust that we will confidently end the spiritual warfare in victory.

Three ways to use the shield of faith

Use the Shield of Faith to protect against direct lies of the enemy: The shield of faith uses you as a barrier between your heart and the shots toward your confidence and belief. When the enemy gets personal and tries to chip away at your trust in what God has planted in your heart, the shield can deflect all the lies back to the enemy.

Use the Shield of Faith to Endure with Trust and/or Confidence: Your faith can help you gain patience and learn trust, remaining confident that God will see you through the enemy's attacks. The shield empowers you to grow in confidence every time you deflect the enemies’ lies about you with truth through faith.

Use the Shield of Faith as a Reminder That You Have The Victory: No matter what may come your way, your faith reminds you that you are an overcomer. Shields usually hold the DNA and honor of their user, and that is what faith is for us. As we believe and trust God more and more, we can block out all the challenges and are confident that we will win in the end in the race of life.

5 - Helmet of Salvation

The helmet of salvation serves as another protection and security that covers our mind and our idea of where we are with God. Reminds us of our hope in God, who saves and is the head of our life.

Three Ways to Use the Helmet of Salvation

Use the Helmet of Salvation as Your Hope: The helmet of salvation can be used as our resting hope that better is coming, and we can hold tight to our savior. The hope He brings from saving us by grace on the day of accepting Jesus as the Lord of our life gives us a sense of comfort that more is coming.

Use the Helmet of Salvation as Your Mind Protector: Our salvation also serves as our mind protector and regulator. Knowing that we are made new in Christ Jesus when we were brought to salvation, we can no longer allow our thoughts and worries to keep us from enjoying our new life until eternity in heaven.

Use the Helmet of Salvation to Remember Who’s the Head of Your Life: Lastly, the helmet of salvation is often used to remind us of who the head of our life is and that any other authority that tries to assume that position over us must submit itself to the protection of our savior. When we remember who’s Lord of our life, not just anyone can get in our head regarding who we are and wha can do.

6 - Sword of the Spirit

The sword of the Spirit is and will always be the word of God. If you study the sword of the Spirit in other instances, it refers to you receiving, speaking, and battling with His words. The more we spend time studying the word of God the sharper our sword.

Three Ways to use the Sword of the Spirit

Use the Sword of the Spirit as a Mirror: The Sword of the Spirit can be used as a mirror to reflect the power we get from knowing, believing, and acting on the word of God. The word provides us with the truth and confidence to know that what your Father says can transform any situation.

Use the Sword of the Spirit as a tool to penetrate hard places: It is also used as a tool to soften and break through the hardness of the enemy or the darkness that others are overcome with. The word of God softens the heart and bring life to the battle you are or someone else is in.

Use the Use Sword of the Spirit as a strategy to make the devil flee: The word of God can be used as a tool to keep the enemy at bay and provide space to overcome any lies and pain that is through your way. God's Word is always used to trigger fear in the devil and deter his advances on your heart and spirit.

7 - Prayer

The final piece of God's armor that most of us neglect or see as insignificance is prayer. Prayer is one of the most powerful pieces of the armor because it’s not one that was given by God. It is a way that we can give back to Him and partner with Him in the fight of life.

Three ways to use prayer

Use prayer to seek God about the game plan: Prayer is such a powerful tool in your armor of God that gets overlooked. You can utilize prayer to ask God for understanding and a game plan when the schemes of the enemy arise.

Use prayer to ask God to partner with you in battle: You can use prayer as an opportunity to submit challenges in battle to God and ask God to partner with you as you stand against the enemy.

Use prayer to show gratitude for the victory ahead and endure to the end: Lastly, prayer is a great tool to use when you are desiring to focus and stay grateful for all the times God has kept you from being defeated by the enemy. Prayer reminds you that God always win in the end.

How to Put on The Whole Armor of God

Putting on the whole armor of God can be done in two seperate ways. We think of the armor of God as a uniform that we put on as children of God, but there’s more. You not only put on the armor of God but you take hold, obtain pieces of armor that was provided to you by the one and true God.

Begin by hearing, receiving, and believing in truth. Protecting your heart and mind with the breastplate and helmet, shield of God through hope. Getting ready and equipped with the Gospel of Jesus and the peace that comes from His act of love. Use your shield, sword of the spirit, and prayer to fight back against the enemy's advances.
