The Benefits Of Praying In God's Name

When we pray and use God's name, it's more than just a ritual; it's an opportunity filled with blessings that can deeply enhance our prayer life. Here are several significant benefits to embracing this practice:

1. Praying the Names of God Helps Us to Concentrate on Him

At times, maintaining focus on God during prayer can be challenging. While we may address Him in our prayers, our minds often drift towards our surrounding circumstances. However, by praying in God's name, we shift our focus from the issue at hand to the ultimate Problem Solver, enabling us to worship God in the midst of our challenges and focus on God's character.

2. Praying the Names of God Helps Us Remember His Loving Attributes

The Bible provides abundant insight into the character of God almighty. While we understand He is a loving, gracious, and powerful Father, we may not always keep this truth at the forefront of our minds. Consequently, praying in God's name serves as a powerful reminder of His nature, helping us to recall His loving-kindness and divine attributes.

3. Praying the Names of God Reminds Us of All He has Done for Us

Often, we express profound gratitude when we witness breakthroughs in our lives. However, as time passes, these moments can fade from our memory. We overlook the times when Jehovah Jireh provided for us, and we fail to recognize the paths He paved when all seemed impossible. Yet, by praying in God's name, we draw closer to these memories and God, rekindling our appreciation for His faithful provision and miraculous interventions.

4. Praying the Names of God Helps Us Build a Deep and Lasting Friendship with Him

We address our friends by their names because of our personal connection with them. How incredible would it be to have that same personal relationship with God almighty? To be His friend, as Abraham was? Every Christian desires such intimacy with God, and praying in His name is the most effective way to begin fostering that relationship.

5. Praying the Names of God Can Help Us to Overcome Fear

When we pray in the name of the Lord God, we affirm His omnipotence and presence in our lives. We acknowledge His constant companionship, accompanying us through every moment of each day. In doing so, we reinforce His divine nature and our identity as His beloved children, providing us with the strength to conquer any fear we encounter. This realization bestows upon us a peace and hope that transcends human comprehension.

12 Of The Most Well Known Names Of God

There are many names of the Lord Almighty God in the Bible and every single one of them is important for us to learn. Here are some of the most popular names along with the scripture it is found in.

Elohim -  God the Creator.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 KJV

If ever you doubt yourself or your capabilities, recall that you were fashioned by the mighty God, Elohim. He is the Mighty Creator who shaped everything out of nothingness—the ultimate artisan of all time, past, present, and future.

Jehovah Jireh - The God who provides.

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. (Gen 22:14 KJV)

Uncertain about where your next meal will come from or when you'll attain what you require? Turn to Jehovah Jireh in your prayers; He is your faithful provider.

Jehovah Shalom - The Lord is Peace.

Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah Shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. (Judges 6:24 KJV

Feeling anxious, depressed, or fearful? Find solace in Father God, Jehovah Shalom, who is always by your side. He offers a peace beyond comprehension.

The Hebrew word "shalom" encompasses more than just the absence of conflict; it signifies rest, harmony, and wholeness (Judges 6:24).

Jehovah Nissi - The Lord my banner.

And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi (Exodus 17:15 KJV)

God is your banner, He is your covering, He will protect you and stand with you every second of your life.

El Roi - The God who sees me.

And she called the name of the Lord that spoke unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? (Genesis 16:13 KJV)

In the midst of the struggles with mental illness, it's common to feel overlooked or misunderstood, yet the truth remains: God cares deeply. El Roi, the God who sees, understands you intimately and loves you unconditionally. Remember, in your prayers, that you are seen and cherished by Him.

Jehovah Rapha - The Lord who Heals.

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26 KJV).

Elohim Chayim - He is the Living God.

And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites. (Joshua 3:10 KJV)

Whether your earthly father is active in your life or not, you can always trust Abba to be. You are His child and He is your Father. A good, good Father who will never leave you nor forsake you.

Final Thoughts on Praying The Names of God

My primary goal with this article was to get you so comfortable with God's names and their meanings that your faith becomes unshakeable. Because the truth is, the better you know God, the more you will be able to trust in Him.

It is also very important to keep your focus on who God really is when you pray. So if you're ready to boost your spiritual life, try his.

First, repeat each of God's names and their meaning until it becomes embedded in your mind. Then, try to include one or more of His names in your prayers the next time you pray. Finally, as you pray, think of how the name of God you're using describes His character. This exercise will change your life.
