Finding Joy in Every Moment: A Guide to Giving Thanks in All Things

Finding Joy in Every Moment: A Guide to Giving Thanks in All Things

It is often said that gratitude is the best attitude. Gratitude is defined as the quality of being thankful, or the readiness to show appreciation for something, and the Bible is full of scripture that tells us to do exactly this. For example, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

But how and why should we give thanks in all circumstances?

Besides the fact that the Bible says so and the fact that it is God’s will for us, there are many other reasons to give thanks in all circumstances. If you’re curious about what those reasons are, keep reading.

In this post, we’ll go over some of the best reasons to give thanks as well as how to do it.

What Does The Bible Mean By Giving Thanks In All Circumstances?

Facebook Why To Give Thanks Share ButtonLike this content on FacebookThe Bible instructs us to give thanks in all circumstances, even when things are difficult. This is because the Bible was written by men who were inspired by God Himself and God controls everything. He knows the beginning from the end, so He knows that you’ll give thanks in the end anyway. That’s why He instructs us to give thanks now in the middle of it all.

So what the Bible means by giving thanks in all circumstances is that we should trust God and thank Him daily, not only for what He has done, but for what He is doing, and will do.

See, when we give thanks to God, we are acknowledging His goodness and sovereignty. This attitude of thankfulness allows us to see His hand at work in our lives, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. It is an act of faith that brings glory to God and strengthens our own faith.

Why Should We Give Thanks In All Circumstances?

We should give thanks in all circumstances because it is God’s will for us. That is the biggest and most important reason, but there’s more. Below are 3 other reasons why we should give thanks in all circumstances.

Giving thanks is an important part of our faith. It reminds us that, despite the trials and tribulations of this life, God is good. He is faithful, He is just, and His love for us is everlasting.

When we give thanks, we remember His goodness, His mercy, His great love for us, and His ever-present help in our times of need. We quickly begin to recognize that God, and God alone, is the source of all good things, because He is good.

Giving Thanks Helps Decrease Depression, Anxiety, And Resentment

Giving thanks has been shown to help decrease depression, anxiety, and resentment. When we take the time to be grateful for what we have, we are less likely to focus on what we don’t have. This can lead to increased happiness and satisfaction in our lives. Be sure to check out this article on happiness triggers

Giving thanks can also help us to develop a more positive outlook on life. When we are grateful for the good things in our lives, it becomes easier to see the good in others and in the world around us. This can lead to improved relationships and decreased stress. So, next time you’re feeling down, take a moment to give thanks. It just might make a world of difference.

Giving Thanks Reminds Us Of God’s Blessings Big And Small

Giving thanks will always remind us of the blessings God has given us, both big and small. It will fill our hearts with an overflowing appreciation for all He has done for us. It will help us recognize just how blessed we are and how much God really loves us.

Choosing to thank God for His blessings, even in the midst of difficult circumstances will remind us of His goodness and faithfulness. This, in turn, will draw us closer to Him while increasing our faith and trust in who He is.

How Can I Be Thankful In All Circumstances In My Life?

In every circumstance, whether good or bad, there is always something to be thankful for. In the good times, we can be thankful for our blessings and the happy moments we share with others. In the bad times, we can be thankful for the lessons we learn and the strength we gain from overcoming difficult challenges. No matter what life throws our way, we can always choose to see the silver lining and be grateful for what we have.

Not sure how to do that? Here are 3 keys to giving thanks in all things:

Trust God

When life doesn't go the way we want, it's easy to feel disappointed and frustrated. However, if we trust that God is in control and that He has our best interests at heart, we can be thankful in all circumstances. Even when things are tough, we can know that God is using those issues to grow our faith and make us into the people He wants us to be.

So instead of letting your circumstances get you down, choose to trust God and be thankful for what He is doing in your life. Trust Him with anticipation of how He will work things out for your good. Expect Him to turn things in your favor, because if you look back on your life, you will clearly see that He always does. This brings me to the next point.

Remember God’s Past Faithfulness

In order to be thankful in all circumstances of our lives, it is important to remember God's past faithfulness. When we are faced with difficult times, it is easy to forget all of the times that God has come through for us in the past. However, if we take a moment to reflect on His goodness, we will be able to see that He is still faithful, even when things are tough. This will help us be thankful for the trials we face, knowing that they are shaping us into who God wants us to be.

So the next time you’re feeling down or discouraged with no idea what to even give thanks for, take a moment to reflect on all the ways God has been faithful in your life. Remembering His past faithfulness will help you trust Him for future blessings.

Remember God’s Promises

In order to be thankful in all circumstances, it is extremely important to know and remember God's promises. He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us, He has promised to love us forever, and He has promised to work all things for our good. When we keep His promises in our minds, it is easier to be thankful in all circumstances.

So if you’re ready to give thanks in all circumstances, read God’s Word, memorize His promises, and believe in them with your whole heart because God is not a man that He should lie. Every promise of His is powerful and true, and they will help you keep the faith even in the toughest of times.

Final Thoughts About Giving Thanks in All Things

Remember, by constantly looking for things to be thankful for, you train your heart to be more positive and content. This is beneficial not only for your mental and emotional health but also for your spiritual health and relationship with God as well.

Choosing to give thanks continually and in all circumstances will help you trust God in a way that doesn’t make sense to anyone else but you. You’ll develop trust so deep that no circumstance in the world can stop you from thanking and praising Him.

So choose to be thankful today, you will not regret it.
