Discover the Power of Having a Purpose: How Finding Your Life's Meaning Can Change Everything

Disclosure Policy

Do you ever feel lost or unfulfilled in life? Often catch yourself thinking that "there has to be more to life than this?" You're probably lacking a sense of purpose and you are not alone. At some point in our life, we all have felt this way.

However, the fact that we all have felt that way does not make it okay. Research confirms that a sense of purpose is key to our psychological well-being. Therefore, the lack of it can be detrimental to our mental health. Moreover, God created us with purpose.

Find purpose meaning life Facebook PostHe knew us before we were placed in our mother's womb and He made plans for us. His purpose for our lives is not just good and perfect, it's life-changing. When we have a sense of purpose it changes our lives, but more than that, it changes the lives of all the people around us.

Understanding Purpose In Life

If you don't believe that you were created to add something to this world, you are lacking purpose in life. If you don't think your behavior makes a difference in the world or the lives of others, you are lacking purpose in life.

See, purpose is more than a career or a way to make money on earth, it’s a driving force and way of life. Your sense of purpose actually shapes the way you think, feel, and behave. It's the reason you wake up in the morning, get out of bed, and do what needs to be done for the day. It's why you're here at this time, in this generation, and at this place.

God created all of us with purpose. He knew exactly what He was doing when He formed us and put us in the world at this time. He knows exactly what our purpose is but we don't, and that's where the problem lies.

The problem is that although every single person God ever created has a purpose, most of them don’t identify it. There are thousands, if not millions of people living in this world without a sense of purpose. They're going through the motions and unknowingly allowing their lives to be shaped by the purposes of others.

If you're one of them, don't lose heart. God has a plan and purpose for you too, you just need to do the work and figure out what it is. And while you're at it, you can allow our collective purpose as a Christian to lead you. Be the light. Spread the Word.

Now that you understand what having a sense of purpose means, let's look at how it can benefit you.

The Benefits Of Having A Purpose In Life

You become happier and healthier

When you know your purpose in life, you have a reason to get out of bed every day, that in itself makes you happier. Studies have also shown that a sense of purpose reduces the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and depression.

Your relationships get better

When you know your purpose in life, you treat the people around you in a way that aligns with your purpose. You no longer react to circumstances, you instead behave purposefully. This in turn improves your relationships with the people in your life.

You make better decisions

Having a purpose in life inevitably leads to better decisions. Instead of going with the flow and doing whatever the moment calls for, you decide with purpose in mind. With better decisions comes a better life, so this is an amazing benefit of knowing your purpose.

You become more focused and productive

Knowing your purpose in life enables you to choose your tasks more carefully. You no longer say yes to everything, you instead focus only on the things that align with your purpose. It may seem like you're losing opportunities, but remember without purpose in it, it's a distraction, not an opportunity.

You stress less

Your purpose gives you the emotional support that you need to deal with the challenges of life. When you're consumed with purpose, the daily stressors of life become less daunting. You know that there's a reason it's all happening and an even bigger reason you need to overcome it, so you tend to deal with stress a lot better.

You become more attractive to others

Purpose pulls people towards you. Who doesn't want to be around someone who cares about God, life, and others? When you know your purpose you also seem more trustworthy because you aren't easily swayed by circumstances or the opinions of others.

You grow spiritually

Purpose comes from God so there is no way you can live in purpose and not grow spiritually. Also, as a Christian, your ultimate purpose is not self-centered but God-centered, you exist to glorify Him. Therefore, as you walk in purpose every day, your spiritual life gets stronger and your relationship with God gets deeper.

Bible Verses On Purpose

Purpose is extremely important to God and the Bible has many scriptures on it. Here are some of  the most popular:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” - Jeremiah 1:5 ESV

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. - Ephesians 2:10 ESV

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. - Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20 ESV

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. - Matthew 5:13-16 ESV

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28 ESV

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. Psalm 138:8 ESV

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. - Psalm 57:2 ESV

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. - Matthew 6:33 ESV

For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. - Habakkuk 2:3 ESV

Arise, for it is your task, and we are with you; be strong and do it.” - Ezra 10:4 ESV
