About Elizabeth Cowell

I have been practicing Marriage & Family Therapy since 2018. I have a Masters in Marital & Family therapy and a Masters of Divinity. I have worked with at-risk youth, high-conflict divorced families, individuals struggling with grief, and I have provided Christian-based therapy to those who have requested it. I have also worked with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families in these settings.

I am a Prepare-Enrich Facilitator and have completed the Level 1 Clinical Training for Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

My approach to therapy is influenced by Aaron Beck who founded Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Many people struggle with misconceptions about themselves. These misconceptions are created by the environment. I use CBT to help people change those misconceptions so that they can feel better about themselves and have a more positive outlook on life.

I am trained in and use Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat and relieve PTSD, acute stress, and anxiety symptoms resulting from traumatic and other life experiences. EMDR therapy can produce elevated emotional and somatic reactions during and after treatment. A typical client experiences a 60-90% reduction in stress as a result of completed treatment. I also have advanced training In Recent Traumatic Event protocol and Group Traumatic Event protocol (R-TEP/G-TEP).

I also having training in Habit Reversal training for trichotillomania and excoriation disorder, Cognitive Behavior Therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and eating disorders.

In my work with couples, I use Emotionally-Focused Therapy to help couples communicate their needs to each other and form a deeper connection.
