Prayers Against Fear: Find Strength and Peace in God

Prayers Against Fear: Find Strength and Peace in God

Fear not! These 2 words are said over and over again in the Bible and for good reason. The reason is to remind us in every step and every season that we do not need to fear.

Why do we need to be reminded? We need to be reminded not to fearbible verses about fear facebook postLike this content on Facebook because the world is a scary place, and living in fear can become the norm if we are not reminded not to.

See, with everything that goes on in our day-to-day lives it becomes easy for fear to take hold of our hearts and minds. We can know what the Bible says but if we don't believe and apply it, fear can take over our lives and keep us completely stuck or discontent.

The best way to avoid this is to pray against fear while reminding yourself what God's word says about it. Praying the scripture over fear will ingrain in your mind the fact that God is with you and for you. It will enable you to live your life with less fear, more faith, and more confidence because that's what God wants.

In this post, we'll pray some scriptures on not fearing. But before that, it's important to know the difference between fear and anxiety.

What is the Difference Between Fear vs Anxiety

Fear and anxiety, while similar in nature, are very different from each other. Fear is a sudden, strong emotion caused by the belief or awareness of danger. Anxiety, on the other hand, is an unpleasant emotional state where you feel worried, nervous, or uneasy.

Fear often has an identifiable cause while anxiety stems more from worrying about things that might happen. For example, being afraid when you see a bear on your trail in the woods is fear, but feeling nervous because you're alone in the woods is anxiety.

Fear can cause anxiety and anxiety can cause fear but none are supposed to be constant. If you experience anxiety, you can pray these scriptures over your life. If it's fear that you're feeling, pray these ones:

10 Bible Verses On Not Fearing

When we are afraid, it might be difficult to know how to respond or even pray. The good news is that the Bible contains numerous verses that can assist us in navigating these emotions. Here are a handful of the many scriptures that might provide us with comfort and advice when we are afraid. Praying God's Word will fill your heart with the assurance that God is with you and that you have nothing to fear.

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Pray It - Dear God, I come to You today fearful but trusting. Your Word says that I should fear not for You are with me and You will help me. It says that You will strengthen me and uphold me so I will trust in Your Word and I will not fear for You are with me.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. -2 Timothy 1:7

Pray It - Father God, I've been scared today. Fear overtook me for awhile, but I remembered what Your Word says, it says You gave me a spirit of love, power, and self-control, not of fear. I will rest in that fact and believe that I can overcome this fear.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6

Pray It - Father God, I may be fearful sometimes, but I want to be strong and courageous like Your Word says I must be. I do not want to live in fear or the dread of others, especially when I know You are with me. So, when times get hard Lord, please help me remember that You will never leave me nor forsake me.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. - 1 John 4:18

Pray It - Lord Jesus, today I pray that You will perfect me in Your love. Help me believe that Your love for me is so good and so unconditional that nothing I do can separate me from it. Help me remember that because You love me, I should not fear, You are always here for me, and You will always be here to protect me.

Isaiah 35:4

Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” - Isaiah 35:4

Pray It - Lord, when I'm fearful and anxious, please help me to remember what You said in Isaiah 35. Help me to remember that even if something bad does happen, You will come and save me, so I can be strong and fearless in every situation.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. - Psalm 23:4

Pray It - Lord, even when I walk through a tough season where it feels like the enemy is winning, I know that he's not because You hold the victory. Therefore, I will fear no evil for I know You are with me.

Psalm 118:6

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? - Psalm 118:6

Pray It - Lord Jesus, Your Word says that You are on my side, and when You are on my side, what can man do to me? So today, I have decided that I will not fear, I will face everything with confidence knowing You are on my side, and You will fight my battles.

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9

Pray It - Lord, I'm human and I do become fearful at times but in those moments please help me remember what You said in Joshua 1. Help me not to be afraid or dismayed but to remember that You are with me wherever I may go.

Isaiah 43:1

But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. - Isaiah 43:1

Pray It - Father God, You, the creator of the universe, not only formed me in my mother's womb but also redeemed me and called me by name. You call me Yours, God, so why should I be afraid? I know that You will take care of what’s Yours, so I will fear not.

Deuteronomy 3:22

You shall not fear them, for it is the Lord your God who fights for you. - Deuteronomy 3:22

Pray It - God, today I want to thank You for always being with me and always being on my side. Thank You for fighting for me in every battle of my life. I know You are a God who keeps Your promises and that You will never leave me alone. So, no matter what the season and situation, I will trust in You, and I will not fear.

If you've just prayed those prayers know that God has heard you and He will be faithful to answer. Know also that you have heard yourself and have been reminded that you should not fear. You've been reminded of what God’s word says. You've been reminded that when you are afraid, you can turn to God who is your strength and your protector. You need not fear when He is in control.
