Why The Prayers of a Mother Availeth Much

Why The Prayers of a Mother Availeth Much

Covering your child in prayer is the most powerful thing you could ever do as a mother. Praying mothers know that God can do more for their child in a moment than they could in their entire lifetime, so they make prayer a priority. They pray fervently, with absolute belief that God will fulfill all the promises He has made.

Mothers pray to cover their children supernaturally, but they also prayThe Power of a Praying mother Quote for Facebook to set an example. A praying mother shows her kids that nobody can live this life without God and that they can always go to Him in any situation. While by praying she ensures that her children are protected and secure, by praying in front of her kids, she leads them to God as well.

Every good mother wants to pray for her children, but many moms don't even know where to start, this post will help with that.

What does the Bible say about a mother’s prayers?

There may not be a specific verse in the Bible asking mothers to pray for their children, but the principle can be found throughout scripture. Two instances that come to mind are when Hannah prayed for Samuel and Sarah's prayer for Isaac.

I loved the beauty of Hannah's prayer

My heart rejoices in the Lord, in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. 1 Samuel 2:1

Hannah was a woman like us, she was ridiculed by her opponent due to her bareness but she prayed and God answered.

Sarah became pregnant and Isaac was born. This child of her old age. Longed for, prayed for, and hoped for child that came as a direct answer from God. Even though Sarah had doubted, laughed, and taken matters into her own hands by offering her slave to her husband, God answered her prayers and fulfilled His promise.

See, when we have the responsibility of nurturing someone, it is important to take them to God in prayer. This is why moms inherently want to pray for the children they nurture.

Nehemiah 4:14 says, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”

This is exactly what mothers do when they pray for their kids, they remember the Lord and they fight for their children.

What Mothers Should Pray For

Mothers can pray for a wide range of things when it comes to their children. Here are some examples of what mothers may want to pray for:

For Their Child To Have A Relationship With God

First, and foremost, mothers should pray for their children to know and love God. If you teach your children about God when they are little, they will continue their relationship with Him as they grow older.

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. — Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NIV)

For Their Child To Develop Their Gifts

Every child that has ever been born was born with a gift and a purpose. Mothers should pray for their children to use their gifts and talents in a way that glorifies God.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. — 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)

For Their Child To Know Their Identity and Believe It

It's not easy to stay grounded in your identity, especially in this generation. Social media constantly shows our kids other options, so praying for them to remember who they truly are is important.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. — 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

For Their Child To Be Convicted Of Sin

Although mothers would love to be able to monitor and protect their kids 24/7, it’s not possible. This is why it's important for mothers to pray that the Holy Spirit will convict their children when they sin. Children need discernment too.

When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment” John 16:8 (NIV)

For Their Child To Free From The Need Of The Approval of Others

Your child can post one thing on social media today and get a hundred different opinions. If he or she does not know how to filter it out and stay grounded, it can be detrimental to their mental health. Millions of kids these days find themselves needing the approval of others, and that is not good. Mothers need to pray that their children stop making decisions based on the need for approval from their friends, so they can focus on the approval of God instead.

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10(NIV)
