Benefits of Praying In God's Name

Benefits of Praying In God's Name

Bible Verse for Benefits of Praying In God's Name

KEY POINTS

  • God has many different names and all of them hold power and are very unique.
  • There are five benefits to praying in Gods name:helps you concentrate on him, helps you remember his loving attributes, reminds you of all he's done for you, helps you build a long and lasting friendship with him, and helps you overcome fear.
  • It is important to keep your mind on who God is when you pray.

When we pray to God, we often refer to Him as "God," "Lord," or "Heavenly Father," but our God has a name. In fact, He has many names and every single one of them holds unimaginable power and meaning.

Nowadays, most people focus on the uniqueness of a name rather than the meaning of it, but it wasn’t always like this. In biblical times, people had to choose their children's names very carefully. This is because, in those days, everyone believed that names were powerful enough to reveal the true character of a person. For example, when parents named their child Hope, that child was expected to be a symbol of hope.

God gave us all of His names in the Bible, which means each and every name  reveals His true character and nature. This is why praying His different names helps us to meditate on Who He is and understand Him more personally.  It also helps us cultivate a deeper relationship with Him while improving our prayer life.

A wonderful benefit of praying God's holy names is to remind ourselves of His holiness.

See, whenever we remind ourselves that it is God's nature to heal us (Jehovah Rapha), provide for us (Jehovah Jireh), and see us when we're in pain (El Roi), our faith gets stronger. We become more grateful for the privilege and opportunity we have to honor and worship Him.

Furthermore, in this increasingly uncertain world, the peace that we receive by simply mentioning His name is both comforting and reassuring.

The Benefits Of Praying In God's Name

1. Praying God's name helps us to concentrate on Him

Sometimes it gets really hard to concentrate on God when we're praying. Yes, we are talking to Him every time we pray, but there are times where our mind wanders and we end up focusing on our circumstances.

Praying in God's name helps us take our focus away from the problem and enables us to concentrate on the problem solver.

2. Praying God's name helps us remember His loving attributes

The Bible tells us so much about God and who He is. We know that He is a loving, gracious, powerful Father, but do we always remember that?

Most of us do not, thus, praying in God's name brings it back to memory.

3. Praying in God's name reminds us of all He has done for us

Many of us are so grateful when we experience breakthroughs in our lives, but as life goes on we tend to forget about it. We forget how Jehovah Jireh provided for us. We forget how He made a way when we thought there was no way.

Praying in His name will remind us of what He has already done plus it will increase our faith because we know what He's done before, He can do again.

4. Praying God's name helps us build a deep and lasting friendship with Him

We call all our friends by their names because we know them personally. Wouldn't it be amazing to know God personally? To be His friend, just like Abraham was?

Every Christian in the world wants that kind of relationship with God and praying in His name is the best way to start building it.

5. Praying in God's name can help us to overcome fear

When we pray in God's name, we remind ourselves of how powerful He is. We remind ourselves that He is with us, in every moment of every day. We remind ourselves of He is and who we are to Him, this alone can help us overcome every fear we would ever have to face.

It will give us a peace and a hope that surpasses all human understanding.

12 Of The Most Well Known Names Of God

There are many names of God in the Bible and every single one of them is important for us to learn. Here are some of the most popular names along with the scripture it is found in.

Elohim -  God the Creator.  “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 KJV

If you ever doubt yourself or your abilities, remember you were created by Elohim. He is the God who created everything out of nothing. The best creator there ever was, there ever is, and there ever will be.

Jehovah Jireh - The God who provides. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. (Gen 22:14 KJV)

Not sure where your next meal is coming from or when you’ll be able to get something you need? Call on Jehovah Jireh, He is your provider.

Jehovah Shalom - The Lord is Peace. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah Shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. (Judges 6:24 KJV

Anxious? Depressed? Fearful? Jehovah Shalom is with you. He will give you a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Jehovah Nissi - The Lord my banner. And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi (Exodus 17:15 KJV)

God is your banner, He is your covering, He will protect you and stand with you every second of your life.

El Roi - The God who sees me. And she called the name of the Lord that spoke unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? (Genesis 16:13 KJV)

When we’re battling mental illness, it’s easy to feel like no one cares or understands, but the fact is, God does. El Roi sees you, He understands you and He loves you.

Jehovah Rapha - The Lord who Heals. And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26 KJV).

There is no physical or mental illness that God can’t heal. Trust in Jehovah Rapha, it will be the best decision of your life.

Jehovah Ro’i - God is my Shepherd. “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1 KJV)

Need direction? Feeling lost? Worried about the future? Call on Jehovah Ro’i, He is a good Shepherd, He will always lead you into greener pastures.

El Kanna - The Jealous God. “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; (Exodus 20:5 KJV)

God values His relationship with you, He doesn’t want to be just one of your gods. He wants to be your God, He loves you more than you can ever imagine and that’s why He is El Kanna.

Jehovah Shammah - The Lord is there. It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there. (Ezekiel 48:35 KJV)

Even in your darkest moments, you’ll find Jehovah Shammah. The Lord your God is always there, always.

Elohim Chayim - He is the Living God. And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites. (Joshua 3:10 KJV)

Elohim Chayim is not just a loving God, but a living God. He is alive and active in your daily life.

Abba - God your Father. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”(Romans 8:15 KJV)

Whether your earthly father is active in your life or not, you can always trust Abba to be. You are His child and He is your Father. A good, good Father who will never leave you nor forsake you.

My primary goal with this blog post was to get you so comfortable with God's names and their meanings that your faith becomes unshakeable. Because the truth is, the better you know God, the more you will be able to trust in Him.

It is also very important to keep your focus on who God really is when you pray. So if you're ready to boost your spiritual life, try this.

First, repeat each of God's names and their meaning until it becomes embedded in your mind. Then, try to include one or more of His names in your prayer the next time you pray. Finally, as you pray, think of how the name of God you're using describes His character. This exercise will change your life.

I've mentioned only a few of the names of God in this post, they are the most well known but there are many many more. If you want to learn the rest, feel free to check out this PDF with 180 names of God. Digging deeper into who He is, always results in us learning more about who we are in Him.
